The Benue State Government on Monday, July 20, 2026, declared that Governor Hyacinth Alia-led administration’s resolve not to return to the old order of “business as usual”, is generating some politics of distortion intending mainly for disruption.
It further stated that the Governor has vowed not to be distracted by those who prefer turmoil to progress, stressing that political attacks will not deter the ongoing work of delivering services, creating opportunities, and securing the communities.
A statement by Sir Tersoo Kula, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Benue State, stated that Governor Alia remains undeterred, focused, and deeply committed to the service of the State, particularly the masses.
Kula stressed that the shift away from entrenched interests and toward the everyday concerns of ordinary citizens, has won attention and, for some, provoked resistance.
The statement further stated that there is no mistake regarding the disturbing security challenges the State faces which are serious, which are not peculiar to Benue as they reflected broader national trends that require clear thinking, firm leadership, and coordinated action.
Kua stated; “Governor Alia understands this. He is working day and night with the central government, security agencies, community leaders, and our neighbours to strengthen responses, protect lives, and restore normalcy where it has been disrupted.
“To the people of Benue State, it is our conviction to state that: -Your Governor is not overwhelmed. He is engaged, present, and making the hard decisions necessary for long-term stability.
“He is not afraid. He has stood with you, the masses, the many; not the few, and that choice is necessitated by the belief; belief in the courage, dignity, and resilience of the Benue people,” he stressed.
The Benue State Government therefor called on all citizens to remain calm, vigilant, support legitimate security efforts, report credible information to the authorities, cooperate with community policing initiatives, and continue to embrace the values that bind them together.
According to Kula; “Your Governor knows that leadership is proven in action, not in rhetoric. He consistently draws strength from the everyday stories of our people; a farmer who can now access markets, a mother with improved access to healthcare, and a young person given the chance to learn and work.
“It is true that recently, unsettling narratives have been amplified by those whose interest lies not in the welfare of our lives but basically in politics of distortion intending chiefly for disruption.
“For the sake of supporters and unsuspecting members of the public watching closely, we want to speak plainly: Governor Alia took the reins of power and did not hide the principles of his mission.
“He made it crystal clear with a simple, powerful pledge; to put the people of Benue first. From resuscitating, hitherto abandoned schools and industries, supporting farmers to improve healthcare and investing in critical infrastructure, his administration has refused to return to the old order or “business as usual.”
“Those are the measures of success that matter to him, and he will continue to pursue them relentlessly.
“A word to those attempting to undermine our progress through fear and falsehood: your tactics will not succeed. You will fail. Benue’s destiny is not for sale and will not be decided by smear campaigns. The people have seen the strides and will judge leaders by results, by safety, by jobs, by dignity.
“Governor Alia’s administration remains open, accountable, and ready to answer concerns. Together, we will protect our communities and move Benue forward,” he stated.
