Gov Ganduje Signs Executive Order Corruption
BY EDMOND ODOK, ABUJA – Governor of Kano State, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, has signed an Executive Order of Open Government Partnership (OGP) as part of efforts at fighting corruption and improving accountability in governance.
In what many considered as escalating the current of battle of wits against his former boss, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the Governor said all is set for Kano State to commence effective implementation of the order that will promote transparency and openness in the system.
Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Abba Anwar said in statement released to journalists in Kano on Tuesday that the state government will inaugurate State Steering Committee and Action Plan, within the next few days
Anwar quoted Governor Ganduje as describing the OGP as part of the government renewed measures to improve citizens’ participation and access to public information.
According to the statement, “Kano State has joined the Open Government Partnership to deepen institutional reforms, fight corruption, and grant citizens’ right of access to public records and information and to enable citizens to effectively participate in governance.
“On the premise of answering the call of President Muhammadu Buhari, that Nigeria must fight corruption to standstill, Ganduje becomes very committed in the OGP project”, the statement said.
The Chief Press Secretary said Governor Ganduje believes that states, especially Kano, should also “copy from Buhari’s abhorrence to corrupt practices.”
The governor said with strong anti-corruption institutions in the state, the Executive Order would help in strengthening optimal performance within the enclave of global best practices fiscal discipline and transparency.
“Kano state shall fully implement the Open Government Partnership (OGP) principles in its reform agenda. Every Ministry Department or Agency (MDA).
“Every public institution in Kano state shall establish an office and appoint suitably trained officials as Open Government and Access to Information Officers to ensure effective implementation of this Order”, the statement said.
With the soon-to-be implemented Executive Order now in place, tongues are already wagging in the Kano political circles that the embattled Senator Kwankwaso and some of his cronies may possibly be the target of Governor Ganduje’s fury at curbing corruptionand opening up access to information in the State .
