Gov Okowa Sacks Aide For Insubordination, Reckless Outbursts
BY SEGUN ADEBAYO – The Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, has terminated the appointment of his Executive Assistant on Communication, Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, citing issues of insubordination and reckless comments against the State Government.
In the sack letter signed by Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Chief Patrick Ukah, the governor said there is no room to tolerate Oghenesivbe’s manifest recklessness and unprovoked attacks on the state administration.
The termination notice, which takes immediate effect, directed Mr Oghenesivbe to hand over all government properties in his possession to Permanent Secretary, Directorate of Government House and Protocol forthwith.
The letter reads; “I write to convey to you the displeasure of His Excellency, the Governor of Delta State, over your conduct with respect to the performance of your duties wherein there has been manifest recklessness and insubordination.
“As this trend can no longer be tolerated, I regret to inform you that your service as Executive Assistant, Communications, is no more required and your appointment is hereby terminated.
“Accordingly, I am to request that you take necessary steps to hand over all government properties in your possession to the Permanent Secretary, Directorate of Government House and Protocol forthwith”.
The no-love lost relationship started when Oghenesivbe took to social media to express his displeasure against Okowa. He later took down the Facebook post following what insiders described as pressure from some quarters.
In the controversial post, Oghenesivbe seems to have drawn a battle line with Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, blowing hot and saying he will resign if his requests are not met.
According to Oghenesivbe, there are some greedy tribal bigots in Governor Okowa’s administration who have been influencing him to either pretend not to recognise his [Oghenesivbe] huge efforts in the discharge of assigned responsibilities or to ignore it completely.
He claimed to have helped a great deal in media management through repelling critical media attacks on Governor Okowa and the government by deploying strategic political communication strategies.
The now sacked aide hinted that his behind-the-scene job had provided the governor with the conducive environment and peace of mind to deliver dividends of democracy to the good people of Delta State, from 2017 to date and still counting.
