Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of Osun State has been declared the winner of the of the All Progressives Congress Governorship primary that was held on Saturday.
The Chairman of the Committee of the APC Governorship Primary, Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State while announcing the results, declared that Governor Oyetola won the primary election polled 222,169 votes as against his closest opponent, Moshood Adeoti who garnered 12,921 votes.
Abdulrazaq also announced that the second challenger, Mr Lasun Yusuf recorded 460 votes to place third.
The APC Chairman of the Osun State Governorship Primary further said that a total of 408,697 voters registered in the primary election of the party, while 247, 207 voters were accredited to participate in the voting. According to Abdulrazaq; “The total vote cast and valid votes were 235,550. Governor Oyetola won in all the 30 Local Government Areas in the state”.
Speaking shortly after the announcement of the results, the Osun State Chairman of the APC, Gboyega Famoodun, commended the diligence of the committee, security agencies and others that worked tirelessly for the success of the exercise.
However, the Minister of Interior and former Governor of Osun State, Ogeni Rauf Aregbesola, who was absent at his Ifofin Ward 8, Ilesa East Local Government of the State for the APC Governorship Primary on Saturday, has given notice that his group will challenge the out com of the election in court.
Aregbesola had vowed to deny Governor Oyetola a return ticket at the Governorship primary election.
