Fintiri therefore called on the citizens of the State to support the decision to move the state forward and assured that the political change would ultimately benefit the people.
Before the Fintiri’s formal announcement, there was also mass resignation of lawmakers of the State House of Assembly on Wednesday, as the Speaker, Hon. Bathiya Wesley and 14 other State legislators resigned their membership of the PDP at plenary.

The list of those who resigned along with the Speaker included, the Deputy Speaker, Mohammed Buba Jidjiwa, Kefas Calvin, Bulus Geoffrey, Haruna Jilantikiri, Kefas Emmanuel, Ahmed Jingi Belel, Moses Yerima Zah, Kate Raymond Mamuno, Pwamwakeno Mackondo, Adun John Alaba, Bulus Kantom, Musa Mahmud Kallamu, and Japhet Hammanjabu.
The lawmakers premised their decision to the lingering crisis at the national level of the PDP, which they said made it impossible for the party to function effectively.
The defection of Governor Fintiri gained momentum with the recent visit of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the State during which he commissioned some projects and showered praises on Fintiri for what he described as “impactful development initiatives”.
Governor Fintiri followed up the visit of Presidenty Tinubu with the hosting of the leaders of the APC in the state for breaking of Ramadan fast at the Government House, Yola, during which he described the gathering as an opportunity to enhance dialogue and foster closer cooperation.
With Fintiri’s defection, the PDP is now left with just three Governors while the APC now controls 31 states.
