The Guinean Military officials on Sunday said that they have taken over the government and detained President Alpha Condé.

The development followed hours of heavy gunfire close to the presidential palace in the capital, Conakry while soldiers were seen patrolling the clearly deserted streets of the city centre.
Already, horrified residents of the central Kaloum district have moved into their homes quietly in compliance to the orders of the military to the citizens to stay at home.
The military declared that all land and air borders have been closed while the government remain dissolved.
Meanwhile, a military source told Reuters news agency that the only bridge connecting the mainland to the Kaloum peninsular, which houses most government ministries and the presidential palace, has been sealed off with some heavily armed soldiers deployed around the presidential palace.
