Gulak: Forum Blasts Arewa Youths Over Ultimatum On Uzodinma
BY SEGUN ADEBAYO, ABUJA – The Northern Unity Front (NUF) has condemned an Arewa youth group, Northern Youth Council of Nigeria for issuing a two-week ultimatum on Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State to either fish out the killers of Hon Ahmad Gulak or be declared persona non grata in all parts of the North.
In a press statement signed by its National Secretary, Malam Yakubu Garba, and made available to newsmen on Monday, the group described the issuance of the ultimatum on Governor Uzodinma as heartless, stressing that what the Arewa youths ought to have done was to commiserate with Governor Uzodimma who lost a friend and political associate in the death of Gulak.
Describing the coldblooded murder of the former Political Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan as as carefully planned act of bloodthirsty monsters determined to set the North against the South, the NUF advised citizens to be wary of ploys deployed by enemies of Nigeria to set the nation on a path of collision.
“We condemn the brutal killing of Hon. Ahmad Gulak by criminals which the Imo State Police Command has already described as armed bandits. The murder of Hon Gulak bears the signature of a professional criminals that are out to foist on our nation a culture of suspicion and fear. We cannot allow the culture of bloodshed to hold sway over our country.
“The issuance of a two-week ultimatum to Governor Hope Uzodinma is a despicable act that must be equally condemned. Instead of commiserating with the governor who has lost a close political associate and friend, it is inhuman to further call on him to fish out the killers of Hon Gulak or be declared persona non grata.
“Hon Gulak was in Owerri, the Imo State capital at the instance of the Senate Committee on the Review of the Constitution that conducted public hearings in the various geo-political zones last week. We call on the police and other relevant security agencies to wade into in order to unearth the perpetrators of this gruesome murder.
“We wish to commiserate with Governor Uzodinma over the death of Hon Gulak. We call on governors of the South to rise up and stave off the rising spate of violence ripping across the entire Southern region. The industrious people of the South-east must not allow criminals to overrun their zone and foist a culture of bloodshed.”
