Gunmen Attack Kabba Prison, Set Inmates Free

Dare devil gunmen in large numbers have launched an attack at the Nigeria Correctional Centre, situated along the Kabba–Lokoja highway, on Sunday night through Monday morning.

It was gathered that the deadly gunmen first attacked a military checkpoint, killing the military men on guard at the checkpoint before launching an attack on the Correctional Centre and set hundreds of prisoners free.

The medium Federal Correctional Centre is located in Kabba, Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The gunmen after overpowering security men on guard at the Correctional Centre thereafter broke into the Centre and set prisoners free.

Meanwhile, the Police in Kogi state have rearrested three of fleeing inmates who were set free from the Kabba Prison by the gunmen.

A police source told Forefront News on telephone that the arrested fleeing inmates were taking refuge at a hotel premises in Kabba after escaping from the Correctional Centre when they were picked up by the police.

It was gathered that they had to hide at the hotel premises as they did not know where and how to leave the town owing to lack of transport fare which inhibited their movement.

The police source further said that some residents of the area alerted security agents with regards to the presence of the escaped prisoners.

The Kogi State Police Command and the Correctional Centre Command for the State are yet to issue a statement on the development.
