Gunmen Attack Oyo State Prison, Set Inmates Free

Gunmen on Friday night at about 10pm stormed and attacked the Abolongo Correctional Centre of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCS), in Oyo State.

Information pieced together by Forefront News indicate that the inmates at the Abolongo correctional centre were set free by the deadly gunmen after the attack.

Forefront News further gathered that the gunmen deployed the use of grenades to gain access into the facility and set the inmates free.

Speaking on the incident, the Oyo State Command Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Correctional Service, Olanrewaju Anjorin, while confirming the attack on Saturday said that an assessment of the situation is being carried out by senior officers of the agency and can only give details of the level of damage after the completion of the evaluation.

Anjorin said; “It has been confirmed that the attack actually happened. And right now, the Comptroller of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) and other top officers are assessing the situation.

“For now, I can confirm to you that the incident actually happened,” he said.
