Tragedy again struck the Anglican Diocese of Yola, Adamawa State on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, as gunmen reportedly killed a priest identified as Reverend Emmanuel Ezeokwe, the Vicar of Anglican Church, Zinai, Cathedral Archdeaconry.
It was gathered that during the attack on Zinai community in Song Local Government Area of Adamawa State, the cleric was allegedly targeted and shot dead by the suspected bandits who stormed the community.
The brutal killing of Rev. Ezeokwe by the gunmen was announced in a statement shared on the church’s social media platform by Ven. Andrew Izuakor, who is the administrator to the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Yola, the Most Rev. Markus Ibrahim.
Izuakor, in the statement stated that the attackers invaded the Zinai community, targeted the cleric and killed him.
The church described the incident as a painful loss, thus called on the Christian community and members of the public to keep the members of the bereaved family and the Diocese in prayers.
Izuakor said; “We ask for prayers for the immediate family, Zinai Church, Cathedral Archdeaconry, and the Diocese of Yola during this tragic moment”.
The killing has sparked grief within the church community, as many expressed shock over the violent attack and killing of the cleric who served as the spiritual leader of the parish.
The police command in Adamawa State is yet to issue an official statement on the attack as at the time of this report.
