Gunmen Kill Cop, Injure Others In Lagos

It was a black weekend for residents in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State as a group of armed men shot and killed a policeman with three other officers left injured in the incident.

Available reports indicate that the assailants, who met the police officers on patrol, engaged them in gun battle that resulted in the criminals carting away the rifle belonging to the slain officer.

Though official confirmation of the incident is still being awaited from the Lagos Police Command, reports said operatives of the Imota Police Division in the Ikorodu area were on patrol duty when they came under attack at Emuren Junction, on Itokin Road in the area.

Witnesses told journalists that the gunmen, alleged to be thugs loyal to a notorious land speculator, suddenly attacked the police patrol team and opened fire on them.

According to one of the eyewitnesses; “The police people were on patrol when they ran into the gunmen and they opened fire on them.

“In the process, they killed one (Policeman) on the spot, injured three others and escaped with his rifle.”
