Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia has described the bomb attacks in Gwoza, Borno State on June 29, 2024, which claimed the lives of 18 innocent Nigerians with about 40 others injured, as heart-wrenching and deeply saddening.
This was as he noted that such senseless acts of violence against individuals celebrating significant life events, those providing and receiving medical care, are not only a direct assault on the affected families, but also on the entire Borno State.
Alia, who stated these while condoling with his Borno State counterpart, Prof Babagana Zulum over the tragic and devastating suicide bombings, noted that the reports of the attacks targeted a wedding ceremony, funeral and a hospital as particularly distressing.

He said; “My heart goes out to the families who have lost loved ones and to those who are suffering from injuries and trauma as a result of these heinous acts”.
To the people of the Borno State, Governor Alia urged them to know that the thoughts and prayers of Benue people are with them, especially, the grieving families and all the residents of the State during the incredibly difficult time.
He further said; “I hope for the swift recovery of the injured and the continued safety and security of your State. It is my sincere hope that peace will continue to prevail in Borno State and that the perpetrators of these senseless acts will be brought to justice”.
Governor Alia prayed for the souls of the departed to rest in peace, and asked God Almighty to grant the affected families the fortitude to bear the loss of their loved ones.
