BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, BAUCHI – Tragedy struck on Wednesday at Dungulbi village, about 10km from Bauchi metropolis, as a nursing mother and one other passenger lost their lives on the spot in an automobile accident that occurred on the ever busy Bauchi-Gombe highway.
Unfortunately, several people were badly injured in the accident and rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi for prompt medical attention.
The accident had a Toyota Hummer bus belonging to the National Tourism Development Commission (NTDC) in a head on collision with a Sharon commercial bus conveying passengers to Gombe state, leaving two deaths and many injured passengers.
Our Correspondent, who participated in the rescue and evacuation operation alongside personnel of the Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC), men of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) and villagers who trooped to the scene, reports from the scene of the accident that the NTDC staff were heading back to Abuja having spent few days at the Yankari Games Reserves and Safari on an official assignment.
It was gathered that the accident occurred in the process of overtaking a heavy duty truck when the Hummer bus ran into the Sharon commercial bus on a head on collision few minutes after loading passengers in Bauchi heading to Gombe.
