Hope Waddell Old Students Celebrate 2021 Reunion

The Hope Waddell Old Student’s Association (HWOSA) Class of 1992 is set to celebrate the 2021 reunion with the planned renovation of the Principal’s office and hosting of its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Friday, 17th December 2021

According to the body, comprising students who attended the prestigious Hope Waddell Training Institution, Calabar between 1992 to 1998, funds for the project, which is in partnership with HWOSA Lagos Branch, have already been released.

A statement by the Chairman, Reunion Planning Committee, Essessien Inyang, said among the cardinal objectives of HWOSA is “giving back to our alma mater by executing annual projects.”

He said part of activities marking this year’s Reunion, with the theme: ‘Rejuvenating the Hope Waddell Tradition’, include Annual General Meeting on Friday, 17th December 2021 at the School Refectory by 4 pm; Road Walk on Saturday, 18th December 2021 by 6 am; and Reunion Dinner on Saturday, 18th December 2021 by 5 pm at the School Assembly Hall.

Inyang further stated that the Reunion Thanksgiving Service will hold at Presbyterian Church of Nigeria (PCN), Efut Ekondo Parish, White House in Calabar, the Cross River state capital on Sunday, 19th December 2021 by 10:00 am.

The statement, which also mentioned the dress code for each of the events, enjoined all Old Boys of Hope Waddell Class of 1992 at home and abroad “to actively take part in these activities as we seek to rejuvenate the Hope Waddell Tradition” in what has been planned as a massive reunion celebration.

The Committee Chairman also disclosed that projects undertaken by the Class in their alma mater within the last few years include the donation of branded exercise books to the students; and Desktop Computers to the school.

In addition, he listed the installation of a 32 inches flat-screen Television and a DSTV Decoder, with a one-year subscription at the School Refectory to aid recreational activities of the boarding students, as well as keep them informed, educated, and entertained.

The Hope Waddell Training Institution (HOWAD), Calabar, Cross River State, was founded by missionaries from the United Presbyterian Church of Scotland in 1895. It was named after the Reverend Hope Masterton Waddell and Mary Slessor, who landed in Calabar in 1876, was a driving force behind the establishment of HOWAD.
