The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday, 15th October 2025, said his decision to work with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led Administration paved the way for the floodgate of defections from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The former governor of Rivers State, therefore said that he deserved applause and commendation from the defectors for paving the way for them to move with ease into the APC.
Wike, who stated these at the flag-off of the construction of the main carriageway of the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX) from Ring Road I Junction to Ring Road II Junction along Wasa Road, by Shoprite Junction in Apo area of the Nation’s capital, stressed that those who initially accused him of destabilizing the PDP, have now defected to the APC.
The arrow head of the G-5 Governors who worked against the PDP in the 2023 presidential election, pointedly said that the defectors should commend him for clearing the path by working for President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
According to the former governor of Rivers State; “It has never been like this before. Whichever party you belong to, all of them have always worked together to support this administration.
“I’m very happy and very soon, I will speak to Nigerians. I have been watching on daily televisions and social media people who said I want to destabilize the party. I’m working for APC, and all of them are now in APC.”
“So, they should commend me for working for where they are heading to. I should be commended for doing a good job for them,” he enthused.
Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State on Tuesday announced his defection from the PDP to the APC and was followed by Governor Diri of Bayelsa who on Wednesday, also announced his movement to the ruling APC as well as the former short-lived National Secretary and National Youth Leader of the PDP, Sunday Udeh-Okoye who also defected to the APC.
