Cheering news coming from the Channels Television family is that their reporter, Joshua Rogers, kidnapped from his Port Harcourt base has regained freedom after 24 hours in the abductors’ den.

Rogers was abducted on Thursday night, April 11, 2024, near his residence in Rumuosi, Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers state and taken to an unknown destination by the gunmen around 9 pm.

Reports said his colleague, Charles Oporum, confirmed that Rogers regained his freedom around 10 pm on Friday unharmed.

“Yes, he has been released about an hour ago, and has reunited with his family”, Oporum told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Also, the management of  Channels Television station also confirmed his release in a brief statement saying; “Channels Television reporter, Joshua Rogers, who was abducted last night in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has been freed.

“We thank our viewers and all those who expressed concern over the unfortunate incident”.

However, it is unclear whether he was rescued by security forces or if any ransom was paid for his release.

It was gathered that the journalist had covered the inauguration of a healthcare facility located in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, donated to the State government by former governor of Rivers, Sir Peter Odili.

The unknown gunmen were said to have contacted his wife and family to demand a N30 million ransom for his freedom.
