I No Longer Recognize The APC As A Party – El-Rufai Declares

…Says, party now dominated by “cunning, illiterate people”

Immediate past governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai has declared that he no longer recognizes the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a political party having failed to allow any organ of the party to meet for the past two years.

This was as he pointedly said that distance between him and the party is widening, adding that the sorry state of the ruling party has left a power vacuum that is essentially a “zero-man show”.

El-Rufai, who stated these on Monday, January 27, 2025, in Abuja at a Conference; “Focused on Strengthening Democracy in Nigeria”, specifically said that the APC presently lacked internal democracy and active party structures.

The former governor attributed the poor quality of leadership to unqualified delegates, stressing that having “illiterates, semi-illiterates, and cunning people” as leaders is a recipe for disaster.

El-Rufai therefore tasked political parties to set higher standards for candidates and delegates by exceeding the constitution’s minimum requirement of a secondary school certificate.

He noted that the APC which was initially established to combat corruption, rebuild the economy, and enhance security, has failed woefully as it has abandoned the set goals.

El-Rufai expressed his disillusionment with the party, stressing that the problems that led to its formation remain unresolved, saying that he no longer believes the APC is interested in addressing them.

El-Rufai also said that there are internal mercenaries in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP), specifically hired to destroy the two opposition parties from within.

Citing a poll that revealed 75% of registered voters might abstain from the 2027 elections, El-Rufai warned of an impending crisis and therefore called on the opposition parties to unite and form a broad coalition to challenge the ruling APC and protect democracy.

El-Rufai said; “This is a national emergency that requires immediate attention. Opposition parties must set aside their differences and form a united front to save democracy, before history repeats itself”.
