BY AMOS DUNIA, ABUJA – The once powerful, connected and rich but now embattled Hajiya Maimuna Aliyu, a presidential nominee into the Board of Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), is having the table turned against her.
Hajiya Aliyu, also the mother of Maryam Sanda, who allegedly stabbed her husband to death, was arraigned before an FCT High Court, Jabi by the same ICPC she was supposed to serve as a Commissioner on Tuesday for corruption.
A former Executive Director of Aso Savings and Loans Ltd, Abuja, Mrs Aliyu was nominated to the board of the ICPC but later dropped when it was discovered that she was under investigation by ICPC.
Coincidentally, her daughter Maryam Sanda is being tried for alleged killing of her husband by stabbing him to death.
A statement by Director of Public Enlightenment of the ICPC, Mohammed Hussein, said Mrs Aliyu allegedly sold three plots of land 2432; 2433; and 2434 in Cadastral Zone B08 area of the FCT belonging to Aso Savings.
The anti-corruption agency explained that the plots, valued at N57million were allocated to Aso Savings but sold by Hajiya Aliyu, who failed to remit the proceeds to the bank.
The ICPC further said that Hajiya Aliyu made false statements to its officials contrary to Sections 19 and 25 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act.
