Nyesom Wike, the powerful Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has said that he is concerned about 2027 elections because of his political future.
Wike particularly said that he is conscious of the fact that if the presidential candidates of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Abubakar Atiku or that of National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Peter Obi wins the presidential election, they will go after him.
In the words of Wike; “I will become the first target if President Bola Tinubu loses the 2027 presidential election to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar or Peter Obi”.
The former governor of Rivers State who is die hard supporter of President Tinubu even as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said he was fully aware of the consequences of the position he had taken.
Wike, who stated these during a media chat, said he knows that they will surely come for his head, adding however, that in spite of the possible political backlash or consequences, he is determined to campaign for and support Tinubu till the end.
According to him; “I will be the first politician that I think they will come after. I know they will come for my head.
“Each day I sleep, I am thinking about the president’s reelection. When I am eating, I think about the president’s reelection. Everything I am doing now is about the president’s reelection,” he enthused.
Wike noted that the criticisms directed at him over his political position have been unusually intense, saying that he was not in any way bothered or concerned about the names he had been called or the opinions expressed by his critics.
He further said “I don’t see where anybody in this country today has been called names the way my name has been. I am not bothered about people who say their own thing. My business is, like I said, I am going to support Mr President”.
