IGP Takes Severe Measures Against Officers Involved In Extortion Along Benin Bypass

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has ordered the immediate commencement of disciplinary procedures against all the officers involved in extortion of motorists along the Benin bypass.

IGP Egbetokun, who gave the order when the six officers erring officers and their supervising officer, a Chief Superintendent of Police were marched to appear before him, condemned their actions and described it as shameful, distasteful, and utterly unacceptable.

This followed a trending video showing acts of extortion by police officers along the Benin bypass.

The Nigeria Police Force top hierarchy said that in line with its zero-tolerance policy on extortion and unprofessional conduct, the officers would be made to face the full wrath of the law.

Accordingly, the erring officers have been queried, while orderly room trials for the Inspectors implicated in the video have commenced.

A statement by the Nigeria Police on its verified Facebook page, reiterated the Force’s commitment to upholding professionalism, integrity and accountability.

The Force assured members of the public that such misconduct will not be tolerated under any guise, adding that appropriate sanctions will be meted out in line with established disciplinary procedures.
