I’m Ready To Sacrifice My Position For Peace In Rivers State – Gov Fubara

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State on Thursday, March 6, 2024, declared that he is ready to sacrifice his position as Executive Governor if it will guarantee the needed peace in the oil rich state.

Fubara specifically said that if leaving the Governorship position is what he needed or what is needed to bring more peace to the state, he can even tell the people to come and take it.

In his words; “It is not about me. People should understand that definitely I will go but Rivers State will still remain. No sacrifice will be too big for me to pay for the success of this administration. My interest and love for our dear state is genuine”.

The Rivers State Governor who stated these on Thursday when he appeared on African Independent Television (AIT), explained that there are things he could have done that would have resulted in a “total crisis”.

He however said that his ability to restrain even when he has the power was maturity, saying; “And the reason is very simple, it is not political love, it is not because I want to gain any favour from anybody, I’m not trying to say I want to be one man who will be there to decide the fate of all but let Rivers State remain”.

Fubara further said; “My burden was not the issue of all the drama. It is the millions of Rivers people who made sacrifices and it looks as if their hopes are being dashed. They were the ones I was worried about. What will be their fate? It is not about me.

“I am the Governor. No matter what it is, there are things I could have done and there would have been a total crisis. But, your ability to restrain even in the face of crisis and when you have the power to do things is maturity,” he stressed.

Governor Fubara has been having running battle with his predecessor and present Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike.

Fubara had in January said that those behind the crisis wanted him out of office but vowed that he would not fold his arms and watch anyone or group of people to sabotage his government.
