I’m Untouchable In PDP — Wike Brags
- Says he is working for President Tinubu, not APC
- Insists good governance is non-partisan
BY EDMOND ODOK – Amid ongoing rumblings within a sister political party, the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) where the Board of Trustees (BoT) has reportedly suspended its candidate in the February 25 presidential election, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike, has boasted of being an untouchable entity within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
According to the immediate past Governor of Rivers State, as things stand currently, there is no one courageous enough to suspend or sack him as a member of Nigeria’s hitherto main opposition party.
Wike, who made the boast during an interview on Channels Television, said with his impeccable track record of “producing” a governor and senators on the platform of the party, no one could suspend him from PDP given his relevance as a key stakeholder.
Asked if he habours any fear of being suspended by the PDP, Wike further bragged; “The person who will suspend me is when I couldn’t produce a governor, three senators, National and State Assembly members. I have not seen that person. Nobody will do it.”
“How can anybody talk about expelling me? With all due respect, I have not seen that person. Nobody will do it. So, the issue that they will do it does not arise. Who will discipline me? I should be the one calling for the discipline of people, who violated the party’s constitution on rotation of offices”, he said.
On his decision to take up the appointment in an All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government, Wike said becoming the FCT Minister was to support President Bola Tinubu’s administration and not as a member of his ruling political party.
“I am not working for APC. I am working for Tinubu who has trust in me to help him deliver the ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda,” he said, adding that governance is not about membership of a political party.
In his words; “Governance is not about party. The party is a vehicle that conveys you. I’m a PDP member — unrepentant. I never hid my intention. As a PDP member, I came out to support fairness, equity, and justice.
“I feel at home working for the government of President Tinubu. He is a man, who means well for the country. I’m not here to work for a party. I’m here to support the president, who has confidence in me. I owe nobody an apology.”
