The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Monday, March 20, 2023, declared the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Caleb Mutfwang, as the winner of Plateau State governorship election.
Declaring the results, the INEC Presiding Officer, Musa Yusuf, said that Mutfwanhg having secured the highest number of votes and beating his closest rival, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, “is hereby declared Governor-elect of Plateau State.
Mutfwang polled a total of 525,299 votes to defeat his closest rival, Nantawe Yilwatda of the APC, who recorded 481,370 votes while Patrick Dakum of the Labour Party (LP) came a distant third with 60,310 votes.
The PDP candidate secured a votes difference of 43,929 higher than the anointed candidate of out-going Governor Simon Lalong.
The PDP scored the highest number of votes in 10 Local Government Areas of Barkin Ladi, Bassa, Lantang North, Langtang South, Riyom, Mikang, Mangu, Jos South as well as Qua’an Pan and Bokkos while the APC recorded highest votes in seven Local Government Areas of Kanke, Kanam, Pankshin, Shendam, Wase, Jos East and North respectively.
