The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has presented certificates of return to winners of the by-elections held across six states of the federation on Saturday, June 20, 2026.

The elections were held for Senatorial districts as well as Federal and State Constituencies. For the senate seats, voters in four major districts (Enugu North, Nasarawa North, Ondo South, and Rivers South-East) went to the polls to elect new representatives to the upper chamber house.

Simultaneously, the electoral umpire oversaw legislative elections to choose a new representative for the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives and a member for the Zuru State Constituency in the Kebbi State House of Assembly.

The INEC Chairman, Joash Amupitan, was represented by one of the National Commissioners, May Agbamuche-Mbu who presided over the certificates’ presentation to the winners.

Speaking at the ceremony, Agbamuche-Mbu congratulated the winners and urged them to serve their constituents diligently.

She highlighted that a leader’s ultimate obligation is to serve as a true voice for the people, adding that they must work diligently to honor the faith and mandate the voters gave them, taking care never to act against the public’s best interests.

The National Commissioner further informed the gathering that the electoral umpire will also be presenting the certificates of return to the governor-elect for Ekiti State at the INEC office in Ado-Ekiti and that of the Zuru State Constituency at the state capital, Birnin Kebbi.

At the event, National Commissioners representing various geo-political zones took turn to present Certificates of Return to the elected lawmakers.

This process serves as the official legal seal of their electoral victories, publicly confirming them as the legitimate representatives of their people.
