Insecurity: No Governor Is C-in-C – Tambuwal Tells Buhari
Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto state has advised President Muhammadu Buhari not to shirk from his responsibility as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federation in dealing with the obdurate security challenges across the country.
Tambuwal, who stated this while addressing a gathering of some youths on the aegis of the ‘National Youths Council of Nigeria (NYCN)’, as part of the commemoration of the 2021 Democracy Day in Sokoto, specifically said that the constitution expressly puts the issue of security on the exclusive legislative list of the federal government.
The Presidency recently blamed state governors for security lapses in their respective states.
Tambuwal asked; “Who then is the Commander-in-Chief. If the President blames governors for what is abi initio his duty?
He explained that as a sitting governor, he cannot give a particular directive to the Garrison Commander, Director, State Security Service (SSS), or any Commander in the paramilitary forces without them having to seek clearance from Abuja.
Tambuwal further said that even the bosses of the commanders in the State must also in turn report to the President who is the Commander-in-Chief as stipulated by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
He said that governors are ready to compliment and support whatever effort the president carries out in tackling the prevailing security challenges in the country.
In his words; “All the governors are working tirelessly towards complimenting him (the President), the Service Chiefs, and the service personnel that are on ground”. Tambuwal noted that Nigeria remains a great country that must not be destroyed, stressing that the nation’s unity is fundamental and important and should therefore the need to nurture and harness the potentials of its teeming youths for the responsibility of leading today and tomorrow.
Tambuwal said that his administration has been investing in education and agriculture in order to give the youths the competitive advantage of not only being responsible citizens but also being versatile global citizens.
The governor, who is the deputy Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum and Chairman of the PDP Governrs Forum said that agricultural undertakings are presently precarious owing to the challenges of insecurity and funding.
