Insecurity: IGP Deploys Extra 200 Men To Birnin-Gwari

BY AMOS TAUNA, KADUNA – The Inspector General of Police, (IGP) Ibrahim Idris, has ordered the immediate deployment of additional 200 police personnel to Brinin Gwari in Kaduna State to curb the security challenges facing the area.

IGP Idris said the officers will work with their colleagues on ground and other security personnel to address the menace and keep the bandits in check.

Speaking at a Town Hall meeting with stakeholders in Birnin-Gwari during his visit to ascertain the security situation in the area, IGP Idris, said 10 patrol vehicles will also be provided along Funtua-Birnin-Gwari road for efficient and effective patrol.

The IGP, who was with the General Officer Commanding (GoC) 1 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Mohammed Mohammed and Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Austin Iwar, told the forum that an Area Command will be created in Birnin-Gwari, with two additional Divisions as part of measures to curb the bandits’ excesses and other criminal activities in the area.

He emphasized the need for synergy among the security agencies deployed to the area, even as he sought better understanding from communities to reduce criminality to the barest minimum within the axis.

According to him, “The police can only succeed with your support, you live here and we will want you to provide information that will help them discharge their duty.”

In his remarks, the Emir of Birnin-Gwari, Alhaji Jubri Zubeiru Mai Gwari 11 urged IGP Idris to help rescue the old Birnin-Gwari town from armed bandits.

The royal father said the town is a historical site that must be protected and kept safe from the marauding bandits.

Also speaking in the same vein, the women leader, Aisha Adamu, condemned the frequent attacks and raping of helpless women by criminals in the area and pleaded with the IGP to do all within his powers to save the people from horrifying experiences that have become a daily occurrence.
