Insecurity In Plateau: Urgent Need To Introduce Local Content In Policing – Pwul

BY CHAMBERLAIN ODEY, JOS – Following the degenerating security situation in the country and Plateau in particular where traditional institution has come under serious threats and attack by kidnappers and bandits in recent times, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria SAN, Garba Pwul has canvassed introducing some local content into public policing.

This is as he proposed that the Police, Civil Defence Corps, and other security operatives should be part of the security details around the traditional authorities for prompt deployment and response to security challenges.

Pwul specifically said that a new approach to counter insecurity in Plateau State in particular has become imperative, adding that what is needed is the posting of Divisional Police Officer (DPO), to an area he is familiar with, and which language and people he understands well.

He further said that familiarity with the environment and the people enhance the chances of effective policing, especially when it comes to tracking crime and perpetrators of crime.

On the abduction of traditional rulers and threats to kidnap more, Pwul said it is important to fortify security around the traditional rulers.

Pwul, who is a gubernatorial aspirants on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said recent security challenges in the State have forced a review of the security and defense contents of his manifesto, adding that he is of the view that kidnapping, banditry, and insurgency have stretched and exposed the national security system so much that it is imperative and urgent to consider an overview and new strategies.
