BY SEGUN ADEBAYO, ABUJA – The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele (EKiti Central), has described the invasion of the Edo State House of Assembly by thugs allegedly sponsored by Governor Godwin Obaseki as unlawful, subversive and a damning threat to democracy in the country.Bamidele, while condemning the action, said the continued onslaughts on the Honourable members of the Edo State House of Assembly by Governor Obaseki should be condemnedThe Senator, who stated these while fielding questions from reporters in Abuja, said that the move by Obaseki should be resisted by all lovers of democracy, stressing that the legislature is an integral and critical component of democracy anywhere around the world.He also said that Obaseki needs to be schooled in democratic ethos and the need to respect separation of powers in democracy, adding that the State House of Assembly is not an appendage of the Government House but a different arm of government.
