Irate Youth in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital on Saturday evening broke into one of the Taraba State Government warehouses located opposite the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Secretariat, carting away tons of food items.

Our correspondent, who was at the scene of  the incident at about 6.30pm, noted that hundreds of people were seen forcing themselves into the warehouse and moving out with different food items including noodles, salt, maize and others valuable food stuffs.

It was however noted that there is the possibility of several casualties owing to intense struggle by people to either gain entry or exit through the narrow entrance to the warehouse while others were seen jumping through the fence to grab their shares.

One of the youth, who refused to mention his name, told Forefront that the government was not fair to the masses by keeping the tons of food items that were getting rotten while the poor people continue to die of hunger.

He said; “It is very unfortunate that these large quantities of food items which were supposed to be shared to the less privileged as palliative for COVID-19 are kept in the warehouses left to rotten “

He said that they were not hoodlums but people who have come to take what is rightly meant for them.

When contacted, the special Adviser to Governor Ishaku on Media and Publicity, Mr. Bala Dan-Abu confirmed the incident without further explanation.

However, Mr. Danazumi Novalga, who is known to be the Permanent Secretary the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), simply said; “I have retired and I am no longer in-charge of SEMA.

As at the time of filling this report, the looting of the food items continued unabated.
