Jittery Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan Accuses INEC Of Sabotage

Following her fears, embattled Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of deliberately delaying the service of the recall petition against her.

Mrs Akpti-Uduaghan in a letter to the Chairman of INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakuba through her legal counsel, expressed concern over the commission’s failure to provide her with the petition and supporting documents despite multiple requests.

She referenced a previous court case – Senator Dino Melaye & seven others vs. Independent National Electoral Commission & three others, which ruled that a lawmaker must be served with a copy of the petition and supporting documents for a recall process to proceed

Akpoti-Uduaghan through her legal team therefore gave INEC a 24-hour ultimatum within which to serve her the recall petition or risk legal action.

She warned the commission against allowing itself to be used to sabotage her rights, stressing that it is worth noting that a Federal High Court has already issued an interim injunction preventing INEC from accepting or acting on any petition seeking her recall

The court’s decision effectively halted any potential recall process against Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan pending the determination of a Motion on Notice.
