Jobs For Sale Scandal Rocks UNIMAID
- Authorities allegedly selling varsity positions for N1.5m
It is not good news coming from the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) with authorities are allegedly selling job opportunities at the institution to prospective buyers at staggering sums.
Reliable sources hinted that official government contractors are unfortunately behind the job racketeering syndicates, and readily influence the appointments that are being made in the institution. This is aside from numerous nominations coming from top public functionaries at both federal and state levels.
According to some of the sources, the job slots are being sold for as much as 1.5 million Naira and above with the ‘candidates’ compelled somehow to ensure they keep the illegal transactions secret.
The sources, who prefer anonymity, claimed that most of those deeply involved in selling the employment letters are staffers and their accomplices within the office of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Aliyu Shugaba, and the Registrar, Tijjani Bukar
One of the sources told PRNigeria that the appointment letters issued to some of ‘beneficiaries’ mostly for non-academic jobs this month were effectively backdated to 2018 with the jobs’ racketeers working around the system to corner the outstanding financial packages involved for the syndicate.
He said: “Some of the new recruits received their appointment letters on Friday, and by Sunday, they were enrolled into the IPPIS, while several other staff who have received their employment letter since 2020 at the university, are yet to be enrolled.
“Most shocking part is that most of job recipients did not apply for the jobs nor sit for job interviews.”
However, efforts at reaching the UNIMAID Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shugaba to comment on the allegations were unsuccessful as calls and text messages sent to his phone did not receive any response as at press time. – With PRNigeria reports
