Jukun/Tiv War Gets Bloody As 12 Killed, Houses Razed Down

BY AMEH IDUJAGI, JALINGO – Suspected militia on Tuesday morning attacked Rafin Kada town during which many people were killed.

Rafin Kada which is a Jukun community located along Takum-Wukari road, came under heavy attack by suspected militia.

Our correspondent gathered that the militia alleged to have crossed from neighbouring Benue state, killed many people and set ablaze houses.

The militia also attacked Wukari Local Government chairman’s vehicle and another vehicle conveying some soldiers going to Rafin Kada following distress calls sent to them.

It was further gathered that some Jukun youths from Wukari going to confront the attackers were ambushed by the suspected militia at a forest shortly before Rafin Kada where two of them were killed.

Rafin Kada is the third Jukun town to be attacked by suspected militia within a week during which several people got killed.

The chairman of Wukari Local Government Area, Mr Adi Daniel told our correspondent in a telephone interview that the militia in their numbers launched an attack on Rafin Kada early morning Tuesday.

He said the death of over seven persons and about 32 houses burnt down by the attackers.

Similarly, the Police Public Relations officer of the Taraba command, DSP David Misal confirmed that some armed militia crossed from Benue state and attacked a Jukun community near Wukari and killed one person and also burnt some houses.

It was gathered that in a reprisal attack, the jukun youths also invaded Tor-musa village along Rafin Kada-Donga Road and burnt the village and other surrounding Tiv villages in the area. Some persons were alleged to have been killed In the attack.
