Just In: Court Declares Sen Bassey Otu Authentic APC Guber Candidate In C-River

BY UBON EKANEM, CALABAR – Federal High Court sitting in Calabar has declared Senator Prince Bassey Otu as the authentic All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Cross River State.
One of the aspirants, who contested the party’s primaries held in May 2022, Senator Owan Enoh, had in a suit approached the Court seeking to disqualify Senator Bassey Otu as the APC gubernatorial flag bearer for the 2023 general elections.
And ruling on the case in Calabar, Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu said Prince Otu duly fulfilled the prerequisite; “That a candidate contesting for the position of the Governor must be a Nigerian, meet the stipulated age requirement, and have basic qualifications according to the constitution.
According to the court, the matter of determining a political party’s gubernatorial candidate is and still remains the right of a political party.
The ruling has now put to rest months of speculations and division within the Cross River chapter of APC over who is the authentic flag bearer of the Party with the campaigns already hotting up for the 2023 governorship polls
