BY AHMED TUKUR, LAFIA – The Nasarawa State Chairman of the All Progressives Party (APC), Mr. Philip Tatari Shekwo, who was kidnapped on Saturday night has been killed by his abductors.
The State Secretary of party, Mr. Aliyu Bello confirmed the sad news on Sunday.
Sources says he may have been hit by a bullet during a gun duel between the kidnappers and security agents while trying to secure his release from his abductors.
The remains of his body is presently lying in his house along Jos Road behind Taal Model Primary School, Lafia.
Reports quoted spokesman of the Nasarawa State police command, Raman Nansel as confirming the death of Shekwo on Sunday afternoon.
According to TheCable report, Nansel said; “We discovered his corpse today and it has been taken to the morgue for post mortem examination.
“Investigation has begun. We are determined to unravel the cause of the incident”, he assured
The late Shekwo was kidnapped Saturday night in his house after about an hour gun battle between his abductors and security personnel attached to him.
The Police Commissioner for Nasarawa State, CP Bola Longe, who confirmed the incident, said he was abducted in his house at about 11: 00pm.
Longe had said; “The Nasarawa State Police Command has confirmed the kidnap of the State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Philip Shekwo.
“Unidentified gunmen in large number stormed the resident of the APC Chairman in Lafia around 11:00 O’clock last night and took him away to an unknown destination.”
Longe said that security agencies had commenced search and the APC chairman will be rescued unhurt, adding that; “We reacted swiftly by deploying personnel to different forest locations in the state to ensure safe release of the APC chairman”.
