Following rising tension in Kano State over possible clash of two opposing sides, the deposed Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, has cancelled his earlier planned parallel Sallah durbar procession in the ancient city of Kano.
The Kano State government recognised Emir, Muhammadu Sanusi and the deposed Emir Aminu Bayero believed to be backed by federal might are both laying claim to the throne of the emirship of Kano.
However, in an announcement on Wednesday night, the deposed Emir Bayero declared that he has shelved the plan to hold durbar procession to prevent possible breakdown of law and order in the state.
In the words of Bayero; “This decision followed advice from our respected religious leaders, whom we hold in high regard. It is also based on the calls from elders and discussions with our council members”.
He expressed the hope that this latest action would bring lasting peace to the state, stressing that the Sallah durbar is not a do-or-die affair.
According to him; “If it will lead to chaos and the potential loss of lives and property, it is only right that we forgo the plan”.
Beyero therefore urged the people of Kano to use the festive period for visits and to strengthen kinship ties.
