The Police Command in Kano State have confirmed the arrest of the Director of Administration and General Services, Kano State Ministry of Water Resources, Abubakar Gambo, and two others for allegedly misappropriating government properties.

Confirming the arrest in Kano on Tuesday, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Hussaini Gumel, disclosed that others arrested in connection with the case are the Assistant Secretary, Administration, one Baba Yahaya, and the former manager of KAREFA Irrigation Scheme of Tudun Wada Local Government Area, Nuhu Mansir.

CP Gumel explained that both suspects were arrested over allegations of forging a letter authorizing the auction of some high-capacity water pump and Tank, labeled as a critical public utility.

Gumel, who offered further insight on the case, said the Commissioner for Water Resources, Ali Makoda, in distancing himself from the alleged criminal dealings, outrightly denied giving authorization for the auction.

He said with submissions from the Commissioner suggesting that the auction was a fraud, the matter would be taken to court soon after the conclusion of investigations.

The Police boss, while cautioning public officials against abusing their positions of trust, said; “We are investigating the matter and as soon as the investigation is concluded, the suspects will be charged to court.”
