Kano Emir Tussle: Eject Bayero From Mini Palace – Court Orders Police

A High Court in Kano State has ordered the State Commissioner of Police to immediately send the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero packing from the mini palace and effectively take over possession of the public property.
The Court, presided over by Justice Amina Adamu Aliyu, also stopped Bayero and four others from parading themselves as Emirs in Kano State. The foursome are; Nasiru Ado Bayero (Bichi), Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar II (Karaye), Kabiru Muhammad Inuwa (Rano), and Aliyu Ibrahim Gaya (Gaya).
The court order followed an ex parte motion filed by the counsel to the applicant, Ibrahim Isa Wangida Esq before the court. The applicants in the case are the Attorney General of Kano State, the Speaker House of Assembly, and the Kano State House of Assembly.
Court documents made available to the media in the ancient city, the judge granted an order “restraining the 1, 2, 3rd 4th & 5th Defendants either by themselves, servants, privies, and or any other persons or officers serving under them or acting in connection with any other person from parading themselves as Emirs of Kano, Bichi, Gaya, Rano and Karaye pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice filed by the Applicants.
“That an order is hereby granted to the extent that the Commissioner of Police Kano State should immediately take over the palace of the Emir of Kano situate being and lying at State Road Kano and evict the 1 Defendant/Respondent from the said palace pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice dated 24th May 2024.
“That an order of this Hon. Court is hereby granted restraining the 1st, 2nd, 3rd 4th & 5th Defendants from parading themselves as Emirs of Kano, Bichi, Gaya, Rano, and Karaye in the interest of peace in Kano pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.
“That an order is hereby made that 15th Defendants be served through the office of the Commissioner Police, Kano State who is to ensure immediate implementation of the order of the Hon. Court in the interest of justice.”
Respondents in the matter are the deposed Emirs of Karaye, Gaya, Bichi, Rano, Kano, IGP, Director DSS, NSCDC, and Army.
Amid the raging controversy over the dethronement of Emir Bayero and the reinstatement of Emir Sanusi, the Kano State Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Haruna Isah Dederi told BBC that the State government received the earlier order granted by a Federal High Court stopping the reinstatement of the Emir after the action had been taken and completed on Monday, 20th May 2024.
Recalled that the Kano State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Usaini Gumel had initially insisted that in the eyes of the law, the deposed Aminu Ado Bayero remains the recognised Emir of Kano.
According to Gumel, the Security Agencies in Kano drew their strength from obeying to the latter, the ruling of the Federal High Court Kano, which stopped the return of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, the deposed 14th Emir of Kano, as the 16th Emir.
