Kano: Gov Yusuf Signs 2025 Budget Into Law, Pledges To Tackle Poverty

BY SALISU IBRAHIM FAGGE – Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has signed 2025 Budget of ₦719,755,417,663.00 into law with a promise to tackle poverty in the State.

Governor Yusuf signed the budget after it was passed into by the State House of Assembly.

Although, the proposed budget presented by the Governor was ₦549,160,417,663.00, the State Assembly fine tuned it with new estimates to meet up with identified challenges.

The earlier expected receipts for the year 2025 was estimated at ₦549,160,417,663.00, with the sum of ₦75,718,779,890.00 to be generated internally, accounting for approximately 13.8% of the total expected earnings for the year 2025, while the remaining 86% earnings was expected through Federation Accounts and Capital receipts.

Governor Yusuf said that the estimates titled; “Budget of Hope, Human Capital, and Economic Development,” is intended to prioritize the provision of quality education, access to healthcare services, infrastructure, water and rural development, security, poverty reduction, agriculture, human capital, and economic development.

With the passage of the estimates by the State House of Assembly, the new budget size now stands at ₦719,755,417,663.00. comprising of recurrent expenditure of ₦262,670,660,562.68 representing 36% and Capital expenditure of ₦457,084,757,100.32, representing 64% of the Budget.

Similarly, the revenue profile stands at N296 Billion with an Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of N85.718 Billion.

Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Jibril Ismail Falgore said the budget adjustment was carried out after the estimates went through critical scrutiny.

Falgore urged the governor to adhere to timely implementation of the Budget in order to meet the yearning and aspirations of the People of Kano State.
