Kano Man With Older American Spouse Joins US Army

A Kano-born young man, Suleiman Isah, who found the love of his life in a 46-year-old American lady, Janine Sanchez, is now serving in the California Army National Guard, a reserve of the United States Army.

Proudly, Isah, on Friday, posted a picture of himself wearing the US Army uniform and captioned it “Alhamdullillah – forever grateful”.

Both lovers met on social media and got married on December 13, 2020. The wedding took place at MOPOL 52 Barracks Juma’at Mosque in Panshekara, Kumbotso Local Government of Kano State, and Ms Janine, a chef based in Lindon, California, flew into Nigeria for the ceremony.

Gracing that historic event were thousands of well-wishers from within and outside the state with Senator Shehu Sani, former lawmaker representing Kaduna Central Senatorial district, a relative of the groom’s father, standing in as Janine’s surrogate (waliy).

According to the Human Rights activist; “They criticised me for this inter-racial marriage and now Suleiman Isah is happily married and got enlisted into the California Army National Guard. Congratulations.”

Available records indicate that the California Army National Guard (CA ARNG), nicknamed Army Guard or CalGuard, is one of three components of the California National Guard, a reserve of the United States Army, and part of the National Guard of the United States.

With the twin motto(s) of “Always Ready, Always There!”, the CalGuard composes of 18,450 soldiers. Nationwide, the Army National Guard comprises approximately one half of the US Army’s available combat forces and approximately one third of its support organization.

Importantly, national coordination of various state National Guard units are maintained through the National Guard Bureau.
