Kano: Over 1,000 APC Members Defect to NNPP


In a what appears a major depletion of the ranks of the All Progressives Congress (APC), over one thousand of its members on Saturday, April 20, 2024 defected to the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano State.

The defectees drawn from Shanono and Bagwai Local Government Areas of the state, were formally received by Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo on behalf of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf at the Kano State Government House.

These were contained in a statement by Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu, Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor of Kano State, in which he said the Deputy Governor, stressed that the NNPP prioritizes unity and assured that all members will be treated equally.

Abdussalam Gwarzo reiterated the administration’s commitment to implementing programs that benefit all of Kano State and therefore urged continued support from residents for the progress of the state.

Speaking earlier, Alhaji Haruna Babangida Abbas (Kosashe), leader of the defectors, cited Governor Abba’s leadership qualities and governance style as reasons for their move.

Abbas expressed regret for their past APC affiliation and pledged their dedication to working with the NNPP for Kano’s betterment.

Also Speaking, the State chairman of the NNPP, Alhaji Hashimu Dungurawa while welcoming the new members, assured of their involvement in party activities.

Dungurawa encouraged members of other parties, including the APC, to join the NNPP for the state’s advancement and urged for greater support for the government’s programs and policies.

The event was attended by some top government officials that included the Kano State Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Alhaji Musa Suleiman Shanono, and several NNPP stakeholders who celebrated the influx of new members.
