Kidnapped Driver Of Adamawa United Football Club, Released
BY AUSTIN AJAYI, YOLA – Kidnapped driver of Adamawa United Football club, Alhaji Kabiru Mohammed has been released by his abductors.
Kabiru Mohammed, who regained his freedom on Wednesday night was kidnapped along the Benin-Ore road last week Friday when the bus he was driving and conveying players and officials of the Adamawa United Football club to Lagos for a football match with MFM football club on a week 11 NPFL.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Youths and Sports, Alhaji Aliyu Abubakar Jada, who announced Mohammed’s release, said the driver was in sound mind when he spoke with him.
According to Abubakar; “I spoke with him. He was very coherent and he is on his way back now”.
Abubakar, who had been in contact with the kidnappers, added that the driver was released after a ransom was paid but did not disclose the amount.
He thanked the media for the role played in ensuring that the world was informed about the unfortunate incident, adding; “I want to thank the media particularly SWAN. I have received calls from within and outside the country, we are very grateful”.
Abubakar also commended the Adamawa state government and other individuals who stood by the club and the family of Mohammed.
The Permanent Secretary called on the Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports, the Nigeria Football Federation to urgently design a way that clubs can travel to honour matches with less challenges particularly now that the country is faced with security challenges.
