BY AHMED TUKUR LAFIA – Security forces have taken over Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital and its environs to stem the activities of cultists that are terrorizing and have killed scores of residents in the last few weeks.
Fierce looking military personnel are seen in almost every angle of the town from 8:30pm every night waiting for any eventuality just as our correspondent who went round the town to monitor the situation, observed that from 10:00pm, the town turns to a ghost area as most people apart from few essential workers retire home to avoid falling in the wrong side of the law or even the cult group.
Residents of the ancient city were experiencing acts of unprovoked attacks, armed robbery and killings by cult members in the last few weeks thereby becoming a recurring decimal in the state.
The latest incident was the killing of Usman Liman, a middle age man of Angwan Sarkin Pada close to the emir’s palace whose throat was sliced in his bedroom.
Most people who spoke to our correspondent lauded the effort of the soldiers for coming to the rescue of the residents and appealed for more security in other Local Government Areas in the state.
Commenting on the development, Danlami Salihu, a resident of Low Cost Housing estate, said that the effort of the security has helped tremendously in reducing criminal activity that has bedeviled the state.
Also John Alaku of Tudun Kauri urged the security to sustain the tempo in ensuring that those behind the killings and robbery are apprehended and made to face the wrath of the law thus called on the state government to assist the security agencies in ensuring that the state is safe and secured.
Speaking in similar vein, Dauda Kassim appealed to the security agencies to extend their routine to other Local Government Areas of the state to avoid a spillage of cult activities.
