…Says Kogi Police Command has commenced probe

BY EVELYN DADU, ABUJA – Following the directive of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, to the Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command to immediately carry out discrete investigations into a trending video in which some police personnel on patrol in Okene Local Government of Kogi State were seen assaulting some travelers and forcing one to part with N25,000:00, the culprits have been arrested.

The IGP while calling for calm, noted that at the end of the investigations, justice will be done to the victim(s) of the incident, stressing that police personnel found guilty, would be brought to book.

In what appeared a swift move, the Kogi State Police Command has announced the Police officers involved in the ungodly and unwarranted act have been identified and detained at the State Criminal Investigations Department.

A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Kogi State Command, DSP William Ovye Aya, said that the affected officers are; ASP Isah Barnabas, Inspector Ifediegwu Godwin, Sgt Emmanuel Ochima and CPL Umameh Mathias who physically assaulted one of the travellers.

The Kogi state Police spokesman further said that Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Isah Barnabas has been issued an official query while the three other junior officers are currently undergoing orderly room trial (Police internal disciplinary actions).

DSP Ovye Aya also said that the Kogi Police Command has commenced investigations into the trending video in which Police personnel attached to Adogo Division, while on patrol duty along Adogo-Okene road, allegedly extorted the sum of Twenty-Five Thousand Naira (N25,000) from a traveller while another was physically assaulted by one of the men in uniform.

OvyeAya said that the Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Police Command, CP Idrisu Dauda Dabban, while condemning the incident, stressed that the Command is doing its best to establish contact with the victims.

CP Dabban assured that any of the officers found wanting in the investigations would be dealt with accordingly.
