Labour Party To Wike: Allege Backing Of Tinubu Selfish, Smacks Of Hypocrisy

Labour Party (LP) has described the alleged support for the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu by Governor Nyesom Wike as a pursuit of selfish interest.

The Party particularly noted that Wike’s support for Tinubu, whose Southwest geopolitical zone of the country, has produced a president between 1999 and 2003 in addition to the current Vice President of the country, specifically questioned the Governor’s principle of equity, fairness and justice.

LP therefore said that it was quite surprising that Wike, who hitherto described the APC as cancer and Rivers State as a Christian State, could suddenly make a U-turn and decided to form an alliance with Muslim–Muslim ticket owing to his personal interest without consideration for the people of the State whatsoever.

The National Vice Chairman, South South of Labour Party, Mr. Favour Reuben, who stated the position of the Party at media briefing in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, stressed that Wike’s actions and decisions were purely from a place of selfish interest.

Reuben noted that Governor Wike acts as if he owns everybody in Rivers State, thus always taking decisions before thinking of informing the people.

Reuben further said; “We are hearing that our Governor Wike, who few years back declared our state as a Christian State because he was running for election, has suddenly backtracked and supporting a Muslim-Muslim ticket just to satisfy his personal ego and selfish interest.

“The Wike we all know is not a coward that will surreptitiously ask his PDP followers to work for Tinubu of the APC without coming out openly. But, if this is true, then we are in trouble and our PVCs should speak for us, being the only tool at our disposal to usher in a Government that will ameliorate our sufferings, both at the State and Federal level.

“Secondly, our Governor (Wike) said APC is cancer, while PDP is malaria. So, I will be expecting the Governor to look for the cure of these deadly diseases and the only cure is the Labour Party driven by Peter Gregory Obi, who has been tested and trusted in Governance,” he said.

Reuben therefore challenged Wike to come out openly and tell the people his preferred presidential candidate, adding that as a man, Wike should come out and tell Rivers people that the man he is supporting is Tinubu.

In the words of Reuben; “Wike should not take it through the back door. We want him to come out openly”.
