BY UBON EKANEM, CALABAR – Amid the plethora of second term endorsements by political stakeholders, Governor Bassey Edet Otu of Cross River has saluted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for commissioning 30 out of the 700 kilometers of the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway.
He said for the six lanes 30 kilometers stretch of the 700 kilometers highway to be completed within record time is a clear demonstration of the President’s commitment and proactive approach to governance.
Speaking to newsmen at the sidelines during the road commissioning ceremony in Lagos, Governor Otu said upon completion, the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway would act as the required catalyst for Nigeria’s socio-economic renaissance.
Prince Otu, who lauded the President for ensuring that construction work commences along the 65 kilometers Cross River and Akwa Ibom axis of the highway, expressed the people’s support and cooperation towards speedy completion of the road project.
He said besides boosting economic prosperity, the Coastal highway which Mr president named as his legacy project, would boost the unity, brotherhood and a renewed sense of belongingness among the coastal states and people due to the high level of economic activities that would naturally spring up along the road corridor.
The Governor expressed confidence that given the availability of abundant construction materials in the state, such as the quarry site opened in Awi, Akamkpa Local Government Area for excavating stone based materials, that axis of the highway project would also be completed within a record time.
