BY AHMED ATTAHIR, GUSAU – Zamfara State Deputy Governor Mahadi Aliyu Mohammed has said that the invitation issued to him by the State House of Assembly to appear before it was improper and unlawful, saying the invitation constitutes disobedience to court order.
Addressing newsmen on Thursday in his office in Gusau, the Zamfara state capital, Mohammed disclosed that he has written a letter to the Zamfara State House of Assembly that there is an order from the court relating to the invitation extended to him by the state lawmakers.
“There is a pending court action touching among others, on any process, in any form or manner relating to the instant invitation extended to me. In the said pending case, there is an order for the maintenance of status quo ante bellum, made by the court on 19th July 2021”.
While alerting the general public, the deputy governor revealed that despite the foregoing state of affairs, the Zamfara Speaker and the lawmakers have embarked on steps in gross violation of the court order.
According to him, “The Speaker of the Zamfara State House of Assembly and members of House of Assembly have now embarked on steps and actions to over reach the pending suit, disobey the order of the court and render the effect of the suit nugatory by scheduling sitting to proceed with impeachment proceedings on Thursday 29th July 2021 against I, the deputy Governor of Zamfara State “.
Mohammed said he was constrained to let the general public know the situation in the State, adding, “I am constrained to draw the attention of the public this ugly situation in the matter, with hope that well-meaning citizens and people of goodwill, will call the House of Assembly, Zamfara State to order on the need to obey the subsisting order of the court”.
He further said that the court order was served on the Chief Judge of Zamfara State, State House of Assembly and Governor Bello Mohammed Mattawalle. He maintained that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has instituted an action at the Federal High Court, Abuja judicial Division in suit number: FHC/Abuja/CS/650/2021.
