League Of Women Voters Resolve To Support Their Own In 2023
Nigeria League of Women Voters rose from a capacity building workshop in Bauchi, the Bauchi State capital with a resolve to do all within their powers to ensure that female candidates secure elective position come 2023.
The Bauchi State chairperson of the League, Hajiya Fatima Zakari, who stated the position of the women at the end of a one day capacity building and physical interaction held for elective political aspirants ahead of 2023 polls organised by the league with support from Action Aid Nigeria, said that the time has come for women to take advantage of their large number to make a difference in the political stage.
Zakari said that the league has the mandate to help women actualise their political dreams and aspirations in the midst of challenges that the arena poses, adding that the fact the present situation in which there is no woman from Bauchi in the State House of Assembly and the National Assembly has to change for the better.
In her words; “It is a sad narrative that there is no female representative in both the Bauchi State House of Assembly and no single female from Bauchi State in the National Assembly. This narrative must be reversed so that women can contribute more positively and favourably”.
In a paper titled; “Women in Politics, the way Forward,” Hajiya Lami Geidam urged women to shun unhealthy rivalry, back biting and envy, stressing that such vices formed the major challenges hindering women from being proactive in politics and supporting one another, Geidam also identified the lack of financial strength, violence and name shaming as possible hindrances to women excelling in the politics.
A participant who spoke on behalf of the others, expressed appreciation to NILOWV for the gesture and urged them to sustain the campaign for the good of women.
