BY AHMED TUKUR, LAFIA – The decision of the National Executive Committee of the All Progressives Party (APC) to dissolve all of its structures at the Wards, Local Government and State chapters and other organs of the Party has thrown it into confusion.
The NEC of the ruling APC which is the second highest decision making organ of the party dissolved the structures of the party from the Ward, Local Government, Zone and States levels at its emergency meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari in attendance on Tuesday.
The development according to party faithful has only succeeded in widening the gap within the party as most of those affected are presently in disarray as they lack clear direction following the resolution of the NEC of the party which caught many unaware.
Some of the affected executives that were dissolved are not agreeing with the decision as they seem to be silently fighting back by way of trying to assert themselves in assuming the status of Care Taker Executive Committee of the party in their respective states and zonal offices.
Some of the affected party executives are of the view that the six months extension granted to the Governor Mai Buni-led National Care Taker Committee is also applicable to both the Zonal, State and Local Government chapters to oversee the affairs of the party pending the next decision.
As part of the measures to douse the brewing tension, the Nasarawa State Governor has convene a stakeholders meeting for today (Thursday) to ratify the matter and equally nominate a Care Taker Chairman following the gruesome murder of the State Chairman, late Philip Shekwo by assassins.
It was gathered that the party in Nasarawa has a peculiar issue owing to the scheduled February 2021 Local Government elections to avoid been penalized by the State Independent Electoral Commission as a result of lack of structures which would prevent the APC from participating in the election.
The State Secretary of the dissolved State Executive Committee of the party, Aliyu Bello confirmed while chatting with our correspondent saying; “Yes, we have a stakeholders’ meeting on Thursday and we are most likely to nominate our chairman.
“It is the resolution of NEC that every state is now a Care Taker from the Ward, Local Government, State and Zonal levels. We have a stakeholders meeting because despite the dissolution. We need to have a legal statutory body and we are most likely to have a Care Taker chairman in our state”.
