Lopsided Appointments: Presidency Admits Error In List Of Appointees

The presidency has said that there were errors in the list it earlier released indicating a tabulated appointments made by President Bola Tinubu since assuming office in 2023.

The list which was shared on Wednesday night by Mr Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, followed an interview granted by Senator Ali Ndume, who accused President Bola Tinubu of lopsidedness in political appointments.

Senator Ndume pointedly said that President Tinubu failed to adhere to the federal character principle thereby creating disunity amongst Nigerians.

But, in its response, the presidency through Dare said that President Tinubu is and remains a detribalised leader, saying that his appointments were not lopsided as claimed by Ndume.

It asserted that a broader analysis of key federal appointments across major government institutions and agencies indicated that Tinubu adhered to the federal character principle.

In the words of Dare; “The original list of 134 federal appointments showed that the northern region of Nigeria holds 71 of these positions, while the southern region accounts for 63”

However, in what appeared a turnaround in its position, the Presidency in a post by Sunday Dare on Thursday on his X handle, admitted that the earlier list he posted was incorrect due to several errors.

Dare stated; “We have noticed a number of errors in the list of appointments tweeted. We are sorry. We will provide an updated list later. Thank you,” he wrote.

Dare therefore assured the public that a corrected version would be released soon.
