BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, BAUCHI – The Technical Adviser of Bauchi State Government-owned WIkki Tourists Football Club, Coach Kabiru Dogo, has ascribed to ill luck his team’s 1-2 home loss to table toppers, Remo Stars, on matchday 6 of the ongoing Nigeria Professional Football League 2021/22 season.

Speaking with Sports Writers immediately after the match played at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Memorial Stadium (ATBS) on Sunday, Dogo said the team played well but it was not just their day.

According to him; “My boys played good football with all that it takes to have a win but ill-luck became a barrier to their victory.

“We have one of the best teams in the league and sometimes it happens like that. But we will not be discouraged, we will work on our faults and bounce back in the next game.”

While appealing for understanding and patience from the Club’s teeming supporters over the disappointing outing, the Wikki Tourists gaffer reiterated the need for more commitments and prayers from all.

He also had praises for the State government, Chairman and Management of the Club for their unwavering support and understanding, assuring that positive results would soon be coming the way of are ahead shortly.

The game on Sunday saw Wikki Tourists players missing many scoring chances right from the blast of the whistle with Remo Stars registering their first goal in the seventh minute through a solo effort.

Though WIkki fought back gamely, the equaliser was hard in coming with the first half ending 1-0 advantage for the visitors.

On resumption of play in the second half, both teams made changes in an effort to level scores or solidify the lead. But the hosts had their problems compounded in the 63rd minute with Remo scoring their second goal.

However, Wikki’s consolation goal came in the 75th minute through Salisu Adamu and the team’s hopes of salvaging the day went awry Saleh Ibrahim’s penalty kick hit the woodwork in the 88th minute leaving the home fans hugely disappointed.

With the victory, Remo Stars maintained their lead on the Premier League table having amassed 14 points after six matches while Wikki Tourists dropped to the 15th position picking only six (6) points after five (5) games.

The next match for Wikki Tourists will be away to Dakkada FC for a mid-week cracker on Wednesday, January 9, 2022 in Benin.
